Release

Year: 2019 Medium: Acrylic + digital painting

Artist Statement: A pivotal painting in my career, Release was one of love and heartbreak. Created during a the 4 day music + arts festival Lightning in a Bottle I became extremely discouraged when I started the painting. Over the course of the weekend through community and conversation I found peace in using painting as a practice for meditation. With every stroke I learned to note and let go of negative thoughts that arose. By the end the painting was able to speak for itself, Release. She carried an extremely heavy weight which she would shed like a butterfly coming from cocoon. Before I could even get a good photo of her the original was SOLD at LIB. I decided to recreate her in this digital form to pay ode to her.
