Artist Statement: These murals were created in celebration of GT Independence’s 20-year journey of advocacy, empowerment, and community. The first mural, a vibrant paint-by-numbers piece, invites participation and honors the rich legacy of disability rights through bold colors and historical figures who’ve shaped the movement. Centered in Sturgis, Michigan and radiating outward, it reflects GT’s local roots and growing national impact.

The second mural, the Tree of Community Connection, offered space for employees to leave their mark. Each signature became a leaf, a branch, a root in a living symbol of collective growth, strength, and self-determination. Together, these murals celebrate not just where GT has been, but the vibrant, inclusive future it continues to grow.
