RAK THAI

Year: 2024

Medium: Interior Latex

Artist Statement: This mural blends the spirit of Grand Rapids with the cultural roots of Thailand, honoring the restaurant’s identity and the stories it holds. Flowing through the center is a river, a symbol of the Grand River and the rivers in Thailand that ancestors once crossed in search of new beginnings. Michigan trees meet banana leaves, while lotus flowers bloom among traditional Thai patterns and bold Hmong inspired designs. A gentle Thai elephant anchors the piece in heritage. Together, these elements form a tapestry of nature, memory, and migration inviting visitors into a space where cultures converge and community thrives.
