Artist Statement: This mural is a tribute to Queen Teuta of Illyria 231 Warren Ave SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506 BCE, an ancient ruler whose power rippled across seas and centuries. Often remembered through the distorted lens of her adversaries, I wanted to reimagine her story with reverence and depth.

I painted her as a symbol of fierce femininity, sovereignty, and elemental strength surrounded by motifs that echo the sea she once commanded and the fire she carried within. Through this work, I hope to reclaim her legacy and invite viewers to reflect on the stories we inherit, the voices we silence, and the power that endures through time.
